LATEST NEWS : Feedback on the Wake Up Warringah Netball Suggestion:

August 25th 2008

The Wake Up Team would like to thank the community for providing their feedback on the suggestion that was recently floated to swap the site of the netball courts with the softball diamonds at Harbord Road.

We have received some really constructive feedback and it’s clear to us that the suggested relocation has several pros and cons.

PROS OF THE PLAN TO SWAP

CONS OF THE PLAN TO SWAP

  • Takes the competition and the associated traffic and parking problems to a less residential area
  • An increase in the hard surfaces within John Fisher Park
  • Provides a new indoor multipurpose community facility that can be shared with the schools
  • May contribute to more traffic on Harbord Road
  • Moves the hard courts further away from the lagoon
  • Perception of just shifting the same problem to a new location
  • More adequate parking at the proposed new netball site

  • Expense of building all new facilities
  • Allows for easier access for buses that are used on competition days
  • Concern from softballers about the proximity of the proposed new diamonds to the lagoon

The Wake Up team is listening to the community and we believe that a big part of the problem is that all stakeholders haven’t been adequately listened to in the past and they certainly haven’t been given the chance to exchange views with each other.

The position of Wake Up Warringah is:

  • If elected, the Wake Up team will bring together all stakeholders to look at the many suggested plans and options. The stakeholders will be invited to rule out any unworkable suggestions and to explore a number of solutions
  • Wake Up will continue the search for a centralsised location AWAY from John Fisher Park. We believe there are a number of sites that are yet to be investigated publicly.
  • Even if the current approved plan by the Administrator is implemented, Wake Up Warringah will bring all stakeholders together to work through existing problems that haven’t been addressed by the Administrator. We will also look at any new problems that my be created by the expanded competition.
