Vote 1 for the 12th Man - WAKE UP WRAP UP Number 3!
August 25, 2008 www.wakeup.net.au
Dear Wake Up Supporter, Just like you, we want change Community word of mouth is one of the greatest strengths of grassroots ‘political’ change. Reading about Wake Up’s progress here and spreading the word by forwarding our newsletters is a great start. Your interest and comments keep the campaign moving forward. With just over two weeks to go until election day, in this issue it’s time for us to ask for a little more from our supporters. There are many easy ways to help elect Wake Up candidates to Warringah Council. We hope you will read on and offer some of your time between now and September 13.
Vote 1 for the 12th man! Wake Up’s mayoral candidate, Michael REGAN, was drawn lucky last on the ballot order, putting him 12th on the long list. In a crowded mayoral race, this is another interesting hurdle for the campaign to overcome. The position on the bottom of the candidate list is an added challenge to highlighting Michael Regan where it counts to voters on election day. Help us get the last on the list first over the line! GREET YOUR STREET WITH A WAKE UP POSTER! We’re looking for people across Warringah to place a weatherproof corflute poster in their front yards. With our mayoral candidate listed last on the ballot paper, it’s more important than ever for Wake Up to get high exposure during the final weeks before polling day, September 13. Please call or email us now if you can offer some of your real estate to the campaign! We’ll deliver and put the poster up for you and remove it later. Posters will be available in just a few days and we need them out on the streets working hard for Wake Up.Contact 9451 4348 or email feedback@wakeup.net.au with “Poster” in the subject line. Include your name, address and phone number in the email. Wake Up On the Airwaves At 7:45am next Thursday September 4, set your dial to Radio Northern Beaches to hear Michael Regan interviewed live on air. The local station is at 88.7FM in the peninsula’s north and 90.3FM in the south.
Wake Up makes a Splash September’s issue of local magazine The Splash features an ad for Wake Up Warringah on page 5. Check out our candidates and read more about our plans for Warringah, post September 13. The Splash is free in letterboxes and at local cafes. Pass your copy around to help spread the word about Wake Up and about a great new publication.
Wake Up to a full team of real independent councillors Wake Up offers you a full team of 10 candidates, all of them active in the local community. None are members of any major political party. Visit www.wakeup.net.au to see their profiles.
Spot the difference: Policies Wake Up candidates keep hearing how unusual it is that they’re talking so openly about ideas for Warringah. We simply believe that if we want your vote, you should know what we stand for. Our policies cover everything from sports fields and community renewal to youth affairs and corporate governance.
Out of town on September 13? Smart move! But you can still vote 1 for the 12th man if you’re out of the area on election day. Applying for a postal vote is easy, but your application form must be received at the NSW Electoral Commission by Monday September 8. If you don’t vote, the fine is $55. Ouch!
Help wanted on polling day Wake Up will have volunteers at the 39 polling booths on September 13. With these locations open from 8am to 6pm, many, many pairs of hands are required in shifts to give our how-to-vote card to every Warringah voter. If you can help anywhere, for any amount of time, we want to hear from you now! All volunteers are invited to our victory party on the big night to be first to hear the results and join the celebrations. To register as a polling day volunteer or booth captain, email feedback@wakeup.net.au with “Polling day” in the subject line, or phone 9451 4348.
